The Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is a flagship motorcycle from the Indian OEM. It recently was revamped to meet with the latest BS-6 emission norms. However, it is best to remember that the updates were limited to the engine of the bike.

Styling

The styling of the motorcycle remains unaltered for the most part. It has the appealing looks for a classic cruiser. Styling cues that appeal to one and all are as follows –

  • A lowered and wide saddle-like seat for the rider
  • A comfortable pillion seat with cushioned backrest
  • A tall and sturdy windshield that doubles up as a protection for the instrument cluster against the elements
  • A cruiser-style handlebar better known as ‘rear-swept handlebar’
  • Tasteful chrome garnishing all over the bike and
  • Wire spoke wheels.

Hardware

The hardware of the motorcycle remains unchanged. The shock absorbers at the front are telescopic fork suspension units with anti-friction bushes. The rear units are simple single-spring shock absorbers with five-step adjustment.

The brakes in the bike are 130mm drum units for the rear wheel. The front-wheel has 280mm disc units with single-channel ABS as standard fitment.

Mechanical upgrades

This is where Bajaj engineers did most of the work.

The bike’s 220 CC, single-cylinder, the oil-cooled engine comes with a retuned fuel-injection system that conserves fuel. It has twin spark plugs and comes with a single overhead cam unit.

The engine is now retuned to belt out 18.7bhp of peak power when the engine is at 8,500rpm. At 7,000rpm, the engine can produce a peak torque of 17.5Nm. The gearbox remains the same smooth-shifting five-speed unit.
